David Tait was in charge of a project to demonstrate the effectiveness of Scottish Seining on the Grand Banks. After inspecting the FPI fleet in Newfoundland, Tait selected the ex UK trawler "Boston Fury" renamed "Fury" as the pilot vessel for the project. (See Photo). Under his supervision the vessel was stripped of her trawling equipment and rigged out with Automatic Rope Reels and a Power Block on a Crane.Due to the layout of the vessel the ropes were led under the superstructure from aft to the Rope Reels. After some initial trials and crew training, the vessel soon began catching large catches and outfished the company stern trawlers. (See Photos). The results were so encouraging that FPI constructed two 117 feet vessels to prosecute Scottish Seining. Namely the "Newfoundland Arrow" and the "Newfoundland Alert."
